FAQs

  • What is thermofoil?

    Our thermofoil is a premium 3DL supermatte thermofoil wrapped around an MDF door core. It’s a durable and easily cleaned material with a matte-like finish, that will show less oils, fingerprints and scratches than shiny products.

  • Can you paint thermofoil cabinets?

    You can’t paint over thermofoil, as it is a vinyl material that is “slippery” to paint. If you’re looking for painted or paint-ready doors, you’ll want to select an MDF product for the best paint adhesion and smooth finish.

  • Thermofoil vs MDF

    Thermofoil is a lower cost option than a painted MDF door. It’s a nice balance of affordability and durability, but comes in limited color choices. Nieu’s thermofoil collection has matching back colors (except for Roja) whereas most competitors have door backs that do not match. MDF doors come in unlimited paint colors with our custom color program, are offered in a wider variety of styles, and are a more premium look and feel than their thermofoil counterparts.
