When DIY & Design Pro, Angela Rose Home needed to update her dated kitchen, she was torn between ripping out perfectly good cabinets, and painting over a door style she didn't like. When she discovered Nieu Cabinet Doors she said "I have been looking for years for this EXACT concept. You have perfectly good cabinets, you don't need to rip them out!"

Follow along with the transformation of her kitchen using a little DIY, and a whole lot of custom doors from Nieu!

“You don't need to rip out all your cabinets! You can keep what's there and then you can put new doors on them.

It's exactly what I do, I take spaces that are existing, and I come up with a way, affordably and relatably to change the look."

Why reface instead of replace?

When looking at the time and cost to rip out a kitchen (while keeping all major utilities like sink, fridge and stove in the same place), the cost to gut perfectly good boxes often doesn't make sense for most homeowners, and Angela Rose was no different!

Opting to reface cabinets, and repurpose some upper cabinets into a countertop hutch meant less mess and disruption for her family, while also saving tens of thousands of dollars, and allowing for budget to be used in other areas, like upgraded appliances and countertops.

“It's not really necessary to replace! I have just lived through a five month renovation, and guess how many days I was out of the kitchen? Maybe just one! I kept everything basically in the same place, and was able to not have it be this huge upheaval for my family. Why rip out something that's good when you can keep it, and change the look just by replacing the fronts. Not only is it affordable, but I feel like it just makes sense.”

The Reveal

After months of hard work, the kitchen was complete! A new pantry wall for easy storage, slide in range, countertop hutch for decorative dishes and glassware, and fresh marble countertops all completed the look, paired with the Slim Shaker Cabinet Doors in Dream Dusk (Sherwin Williams Rock Bottom). Paired with unlacquered brass hardware for a bit of glam, the kitchen went from dated to dreamy with a little patience, and a whole lot of DIY!

"Dream Dusk is exactly what dreams are made of - it's this really muted deep grey with these blue green undertones. It's making it so that everyone can get these designer looks in their home, affordably  - using cabinets they have, using IKEA, using something that they've built. They don't have to rip it out and buy a new kitchen, they just need the custom doors!”
